Save Shoreditch!
Matt Johnson narrates the above clip.
It's concerned with corporate interest's proposal to literally cast parts of Shoreditch, an inner suburb of London, into permanent shadow through the construction of high-rise business buildings.
The proposal involves building many high-rises along several roads thus producing a wall along much of the suburb as well as knocking down many buildings of historical and cultural significance.
Further, this particular situation has involved utterly undemocratic processes in which deals have been struck behind closed doors and the residents of Shoreditch have been left entirely in the dark (pun intended) as the companies involved, Hammerson and Ballymore, have been supported by London Mayor, Ken Livingstone, despite widespread opposition to the proposal.
This kind of thing happens everywhere all the time so it's good to see some resistance and publicity.
More power to the people of Shoreditch.
